If you have PKWare alpha version 1.93, be SURE to read the NOTICE and
the Disclaimer text included in ALPHA.DOC.
AM now includes new option switch support for PKWare version
1.93 in anticipation of release of version 2.0. AM should be
compatible with PKWare version 2.0 right out of the box. At this
time the only 2.0 option not tested with AM is the multi-volume
option (-&), which is not operable in alpha version 1.93.
PKZIP compression type switch changes supported in AM:
PKZIP 1.10 PKZIP 1.93 (2.0)
-e[x/i/s] -e[s/n/x]
x = maXimal compression s = fast compression
i = implode only n = normal compression
s = shrink only x = eXtra compression
Since PKZIP 1.10 will NOT recognize the -en switch and will interpret
the -es switch differently than does PKZIP 1.93 (2.0), you should
use only the -ex option until PKZIP 2.0 becomes available. As of
08/15/92, PKZIP 2.0 had NOT been released!!
PKZIP new options supported in AM:
NOTE: Do NOT use any of these switches with PKZIP 1.10 or earlier.
[ ] -& Mult-Volume
[ ] -= Compat Mode
[ ] -+ No Use EMS
-T[mmyydd] (files BEFORE this date)
PKUNZIP new options supported in AM:
Do not use with PKUNZIP 1.10 or earlier.
[ ] -+ No Use EMS
If any of these defaults are changed, the appropriate ZIP/UNZIP 2.0 option
switches will be added to the command line by AM. If you are using
version 1.10 or earlier, these switches will not be recognized and
PKZIP/PKUNZIP will default to the help screen.
BEST ADVICE: Do not change any of the new switches from their delivered
defaults until PKWare releases version 2.0 of PKZIP and PKUNZIP.
The PKWare version 1.93 package makes no mention of possible changes to
PKZIPFIX or ZIP2EXE. Obviously, PKZIPFIX will have to be upgraded but
it is not known at this time whether PKWare is planning a change to
ZIP2EXE that will affect AM. Stay tuned, ZIP fans, ZIP is still the
finest archive system on the market.
